When you’re in an enclosed space for any period of time, air quality is always a concern. Since the COVID pandemic, aircraft air quality become an even greater focus among discerning air travelers. Is the air quality in an aircraft cabin safe?
Rest assured that when you fly in a private jet, your air quality is superior to what you’d experience on a commercial flight — and rivals that of many other shared indoor spaces! That’s because of how the air is filtered and circulated.
Here’s a closer look at air quality on an aircraft and what you can expect when you fly private.
How is Air Circulated on an Aircraft?
Aircraft circulates air in different ways:
First is a fresh air system. For example, the Gulfstream G650 pulls fresh air from the outside through its purification system. The air is then treated with high pressure and temperatures to remove impurities before it’s cooled and moved through the cabin. The vents in the aircraft pull out the old air. This cycle continues every two minutes to ensure only the freshest air for its passengers.
The other method is an air recirculation system. Rather than pulling all fresh air from outside, the air is continually recirculated through filters and mixed with fresh outside air, then pushed through the cabin. One of the benefits of this method is that because not all air is “fresh,” it can help to maintain the temperature and humidity of the cabin because the air has already been conditioned.
Both methods can be enhanced with ion pulse systems. These systems neutralize harmful contaminants in the air so that air quality is even better.
Do Private Jets Use HEPA Filters?
Before the pandemic emphasized aircraft air quality, many private jet manufacturers were already using HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filters to contribute to a cleaner indoor environment.
HEPA filters were originally designed by the U.S. Army Chemical Corps to remove radioactive material from the air. Now they’re used in a variety of applications, including hospitals that need to maintain a clean and sterile environment. They are able to capture contaminants and particulate matter as small as 0.3 microns.
Many of the private jets in our Access Jet Group network are outfitted with HEPA filter systems. If this is an important feature to you in your travels, let us know and we’ll be happy to include this criterion in your booking.
How Access Jet Group Keeps Passenger Safety at the Forefront
Since our founding, safety has always been a top priority. Flying private offers a number of inherent safety advantages, including:
- Private jets are smaller in size, making it easier to clean them thoroughly between guests. They also have a faster air refresh rate to maintain higher air quality.
- Get direct flights on-demand to avoid the germ-filled landscapes of commercial airports, large crowds, and flying on multiple aircraft.
- Enjoy a flight tailored just for you and your group.
No matter your destination, all of our passengers share a common interest: a newfound appreciation for cleanliness. Our definition of safety extends to onboard air quality, and we continue to take our responsibility to you very seriously.
