Maybe you know the name Cabo San Lucas from its iconic rock arch that’s become one of the most photogenic places in Mexico. Or maybe you’ve heard the area is famous for its whale watching and other marine life. Whatever the reason, Cabo San Lucas is a true paradise you’ll want to explore more than once.
Tucked on Mexico’s Baja Peninsula, Cabo San Lucas has been a second home to Hollywood’s elite for decades, offering shimmering ocean views in nearly every direction, high end resorts, and plenty of things to see and do on land and water alike.
And in true Access Jet Group fashion, Cabo is easily reached by private jet charter to make your experience even more epic. Here’s a closer look at what makes this tropical locale one you’ll want to visit again and again.
Where to Stay in Cabo San Lucas
First things first: Cabo San Lucas has had quite the glow up since celebutantes and spring breakers alike starting making it their vacation haven. The Ritz Carlton has established their Zadun property here, offering all the high-end luxuries you expect from the Ritz with a unique desert oasis vibe.
Then there’s the Esperanza, part of the Auberge Resorts Collection that’s better known as the only private beach resort in Cabo. Luxury suites, alfresco dining, and whale watching are par for the course. They also have plenty of resort-led activities for every age, from kids’ cooking classes to kombucha brewing to family movie nights.
Things to See and Do
Whether you prefer to play on dry land or venture out into the water, the abundance of adventures that await you ensure you’ll enjoy every moment of your vacation. Here are a few of our personal favorites:
Visit Land’s End
These unique rock formations are tucked along Cabo’s south side and represent one of the most photographed spots in the area. Made from years of rough seas and winds, Land’s End is often populated with sea lions and makes the perfect spot to enjoy the sunset. You can book a water taxi or boat tour to properly explore the area and enjoy the picturesque scenery up close.
Lounge on Lover’s Beach (Playa Del Amor)
One of the town’s most iconic beaches, Lover’s Beach is located near the famous Land’s End rock formations. Just a stone’s throw from downtown Cabo, this stretch of beach is ideal for sunbathing and photography. However, because of its popularity, it can quickly lose its romantic appeal in peak season.
Play a Round of Golf
Seaside golf courses offer no shortage of relaxing views, but choosing just one will prove difficult. Cabo’s sister town, San Jose Del Cabo, also offers several must-play golf courses that will challenge enthusiasts and seasoned pros alike.
Go Whale Watching
Arguably one of the main reasons why travelers choose Cabo in the first place, whale watching can be a once in a lifetime opportunity for some. Several species of whale call these waters home, and you can book group and private tours that offer guaranteed sightings.
Where to Eat
True to its oceanside locale, Cabo San Lucas is brimming with fresh seafood options that you’ll want to savor. But as the destination’s popularity has grown over the years, more chefs are stamping a footprint in the area to diversify the local cuisine. Dining here can get quite pricey. If you plan on splurging for a good meal, try El Farallon (located in the Waldorf Astoria along the water’s edge) or Lorenzillo’s Los Cabos, which offers fine seafood and beautiful views of the harbor.
For a more low key, local experience, Tacos Gardenia is serving up an authentic Mexican experience. The Office on the Beach and Mi Casa are also guaranteed to please.
Best Time to Visit Cabo San Lucas
Cabo San Lucas has become a winter haven for snowbirds, which is fine if you’re one of them and don’t mind the crowds. May through June are ideal times to visit if you want more of the beach to yourself without sacrificing the mild weather. The area doesn’t have much of a hurricane season to speak of, but tropical storms have been known to hit the area from May through November. Whale watching is best enjoyed in Mid-December through Mid-April, but keep in mind this is also the most expensive time to visit.
